100th Post! and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is my 100th blog post! Is it weird that the first thing I thought of when I realized this was, “I wonder how many calories that works out to?” Probably something like 50,000? Grosssssssssss.

I had big plans to make something super fancy and beautiful and wonderful for my 100th post, but apparently there’s this hurricane that interrupted my plans. The Metro isn’t running, DC is in a state of emergency, and I am working from home today. Even though things aren’t too crazy out there quite yet, I decided that making an elaborate layer cake on the eve of Frankenstorm probably wasn’t the highest or best use of my time.

So, for my 100th post, you get a nonfancy, nonbeautiful, but seriously delicious cookie recipe that I’ve made many, many times. These pumpkin chocolate chip cookies — just in time for Halloween! — are so fluffy and soft and yummy that it always strikes me as an unfair bummer that you can’t make them yearround. I mean you could. I’m not telling you what to do or anything. You’re an adult (I assume). Do what you want! But what you should want to do is make these cookies right now and CHOW DOWN!

One quick little note — I think these taste good straight out of the oven, but GREAT the next day. Not sure why, they defy all universal laws of cookie deliciousness.

PUMPKIN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES (recipe from All Recipes)

1 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp milk
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350. In large bowl, combine pumpkin, sugar, vegetable oil, and egg. In medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt. Dissolve baking soda with milk and stir in with dry ingredients. Add flour mixture to pumpkin mixture and mix well.
  2. Add vanilla and chocolate chips, mixing well.
  3. Drop by spoonful on greased cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until brown and firm.

I made these for a little Halloween party we had this weekend. We also had these and these and some other stuff I’ll probably post in the coming days. Here’s the full party spread (spooky jack-o-lantern compliments of my husband):
